Failed Crackle Accents

This is my 3rd attempt at making something with Crackle Accents on, each time it has ruined the piece. It just does not work in the way I want it to. I wanted something with small cracks and not a sepia tint. Any answers where I'm going wrong? Maybe I'm putting it on too thick? I'm gutted too as I had spent ages on making this ATC. Has anyone got any other suggestions of another product I could use? Probably Ranger's Distress clear Rock Candy.

Hi
It has happened to me so take heart. Spent an age on creating something and it was a disaster - I remember when some time ago I was altering dominoes for jewellery and they actually had to end up in the bin, I couldn't rescue them at all. I've found the smaller the area the better it works but it is trial and error as I've noticed it works differently on different surfaces and was aware that it did cause colours to "run".
Not been aware of a Sepia tint before when using crackle accents. I don't have Rock Candy so cannot comment on that.
Sorry I wasn't of more help to you.
Wishes
Lynne

Thank you for replying Lynne. It's nice to know, that it was not just me this has happened to.
I think the sepia colour might have come from the Walnut Stain I used on the ATC. Even if I had brushed a thin layer of crackle accents on, it would still have leached the Walnut stain and turned brown. But its the large cracks I'm not happy with.

I think your ATC looks great! I prefer the clear Rock Candy myself, it gives nice fine crackles. The thinner the coat, the smaller the cracks. It does, however, still cause inks to run though. I wonder if heat setting the ink would help, I must have a try and see. xxx

I think Lynne is onto something about the surface size being a bit of a problem, but an ATC isn't really that big. I had a similar problem doing this on a 5X7 canvas. Looked great for a few days and then I had the exact same situation you have here. I'm not in a particularly dry area either, so I wonder about that change over time. Will check back to see if you get a solution as I'm all ears!

I'm going to show my ignorance... what is ATC? This is a completely new medium for me to behold, and in my glaring ignorance, I think it looks great! The crack on the vase looks very organic and the lighter colors showing through connects well with the light behind the text.

A superb ATC, I just LOVE the way it's crackled, you couldn't have got that finish if you'd tried. Wonderful x

This is an old post I just spotted. Crackle products are maddening in their inconsistency and it is so annoying to ruin a project. I do it all the time. I wonder if a layer of matte medium or similar, then let it dry, then crackle would help seal it so the colours don't bleed? Did you find a solution in the end?
